Linguistic Developments in Eurotra Since 1983

چکیده
where AN, BEN and TRF are binary relations, and TRA is the composition of AN, TRF and GEN, i.e. interpretation was to be expressed as an orbered tree with complex property l i s t s on the nodes, which was manipulated by two basic operations, v iz. tree transformations and lexical subst i tu t ion. The BETA preoccupation with robustness, on the other hand, made them require that all linguistic information about texts should be merged into one single gds. On failure to compute parts of a deeper linguistic dimension, the intuition went, some clever algorithm could be used to extract from the gds an equivalent piece of representation on the next less pretentious dimension. The logical extreme of this reasoning was that, if all else failed, it should be possible to recover the original text from the gds.

متن کاملEUROTRA: A Multilingual System under Development
This paper tries to give an overview of the state of EUROTRA development at the beginning of 1985. The system is under development in the sense that the project is now an official project of the European community, much basic preliminary work has been done, and work in the Member States has started. However, as will be seen, linguistic work is in a very early stage, and no very concrete results...
متن کاملAn Architecture Sketch of EUROTRA-II
This paper outlines a new architecture for a NLP/MT development environment for the EUROTRA project, which will be fully operational in the 1993-94 time frame. The proposed architecture provides a powerful and flexible platform for extensions and enhancements to the existing EUROTRA translation philosophy and the linguistic work done so far, thus allowing the reusability of existing grammatical...
متن کاملSyntactic Theory and Grammar Design for Machine Translation
Recently, the field of machine translation has increasingly reflected the influence of linguistic theory. Some systems have been designed around principles or structures of specific theories (Dorr, 1989; Kaplan, Netter, Wedekind, & Zaenen, 1989; Sharp, 1986), whereas others, adhering less strongly to particular theories, nevertheless reflect great care in considering and adapting the work of li...
